6 Tips for Organizing Your Linen Closet

Is your mother-in-law staying over this weekend? Will you be having a housewarming party soon? Perhaps you're simply looking for an easier way to find a matching towel set when you need it. No matter the reason, you're in luck. Here are six tips to help you organize your linen closet.

1. Empty your linen closet. That's right. Before organizing your closet, it's important to start with clean, uncluttered space. Remove everything from your closet and start afresh. This will also give you a chance to create a pile of items to throw away, recycle or donate to your local homeless shelter.

2. Pick your patterns and colors. Before rearranging your closet, decide which items will return to the storage space and which new items you will incorporate. In our closet, we chose tans, whites, grays and blues. Don't pick too many colors, and make sure that the colors you ultimately choose coordinate well with one another. Finally, be sure to pick at least one or two patterns to add drama to the space. The patterns will make the space pop and provide a great deal of interest for the eyes.

3. Layer Your Linens. Don't stack all of the white towels in one section of the closet. Mix things up! Spread the colors and patterns throughout the different shelves and levels.

4. Fold and Stack Your Linens in Different Ways. This will create a more polished look and a ton of character. Try rolling up your wash cloths or displaying different sides of the same fold.

5. Add Items Other Than Linens. Grab a few toiletries and place them strategically throughout the linen closet. Use storage cubes or baskets to add more smalls items neatly.

6. Be creative. It's your closet! It's your style! Add other items that make you feel right at home like a teddy bear, statue, or vase.
