Volunteering: Interview With The Owner of Sunny Kpor LLC

Recently, the owner of Sunny Kpor LLC served as a volunteer at the Chicago Greater Food Depository. We sat down with him to get his perspective on volunteering and service work.

Q: How was it volunteering at the Greater Food Depository? A: It felt awesome because I knew that my work would make an impact on people's lives in my community.

Q: What exactly did you do during your service project? A: We cleaned the facility and separated various foods. There is a preparation area where food is prepared before being served. We had to clean that area before separating potatoes and bread. We helped repack 6,360 pounds of potatoes and 7,460 pounds of bread

Q: What are the best ways to volunteer in your perspective generally? A: There is no single "best" way to volunteer. Anything you do for someone else without expecting something in return is a form of volunteering, whether you call it that or not. At the same time, I believe aiding our youth is very impactful.

Q: What's a volunteer opportunity you wish you had taken advantage of that you haven't done yet. A: I would like to volunteer for with Boys and Girls Club and maybe even mentor a child one-on-one. Now more than ever, children need guidance and structure.

Q: Is there anything else you'd like to share about volunteering? A: I would encourage anyone who thinks volunteering is not impactful, if they haven't done it, to not allow people to make decisions for them. You don't know what volunteering feels like until you actually do it. The reward you get from volunteering cannot be taught or explained. It is internal. You must experience it for yourself
